The Program opens with an impetuous, remarkably fleet-fingered, and diversely characterized account of Abegg Variations. Fukuma's talents further shine in the Novelletten. This young pianist's impressive pianism and insightful musicianship bode well for future recordings. I look forward to them!

As if filled with some of the composer's passion and whimsy, Fukuma infuses his intelligent interpretations with poetry and a wideranging imagination. One can't help but appreciate his phrase shaping and timing in the three late fantasy pieces from Opus 111. Listeners will find a sensitivity to challenging textures and characters, to Schumann's propensity to think in many strands counterpoint. So textures are balanced beautifully, and the ear is drawn to lovely inner lines.
